12th Grade~Zoology Intensive on Hermit IslandO12th Grade~Zoology Intensive on Hermit Islandn Sunday September 24, we headed off to Maine for the Zoology Intensive on Hermit Island. There, eight other Waldorf senior classes joined us, some of whom who had come from as far away as Pennsylvania. Once settled into our designated campsites, we were swept into our first evening on the island, which included singing in front of the fire and a quick trip down to the beach at night. The water of course, was freezing. The ocean and singing seemed to be daily themes that were entwined into life on the island, alongside our daily routine: main lesson, art labs, tide pool exploration, socializing and meeting new friends. A highlight of the trip was running into the mud flats to dig for worms, clams, and smear globs of cold, sticky mud on each other. Not surprisingly, the event ended with a trip down to the ocean, as the warm sun shone overhead. ~Alena, 12th Grade student
