The Conference of Teachers is delighted to announce that Melanie Glissman has accepted the position of class teacher for the First Grade class starting in September 2016.

Glissman-MelanieMelanie received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education (PK-6) from Lynchburg College in Virginia and also completed the requirements for her Teacher Licensure for PK-6 in December 2012. Melanie co-founded the Green Thumb Alliance at the college which helped to develop community gardening and composting programs.

After college, Melanie pursued her interest in sustainability by working at several organic farms. Her public school internship had left her with the question of whether there was a form of education which would better meet the needs of children. Looking at alternatives in education, Melanie applied for an assistant job at the Anchorage Waldorf School. This led her to return to the east coast to start Waldorf teacher training.

Melanie came to The Hartsbrook School last year as part of her teacher training when she interned with Class Teacher Jessica Stark in grade two. She received her teaching certificate in Waldorf education from Antioch University in New England in 2015. She returned to Hartsbrook this year as a much-loved assistant in the fourth grade as her natural teaching capacities developed.

Melanie will be mentored by experienced class teachers Jan Baudendistel and Catherine Hopkins. A parent meeting and other events for the new class will be scheduled later this spring.

Welcome Melanie!
