Ty McCormick, alumni, and author will join us to read from his forthcoming book, “Beyond the Sand and Sea: One Family’s Quest for a Country to Call Home”, a compelling story about one family’s journey to achieve refugee resettlement in the US.

Ty McCormick is an editor at Foreign Affairs, the magazine published by the Council on Foreign Relations, and a former foreign correspondent who has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, Newsweek, and National Geographic. From 2015 to 2018, he was based in Nairobi, Kenya, as Africa editor of Foreign Policy magazine, where he led a team of writers that won a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for a series on African migration. He has reported from more than a dozen countries in Africa and the Middle East.

Ty is a graduate of Stanford, Oxford, and the Queen’s University Belfast, where he was a George J. Mitchell Scholar. He is also a graduate of the Hartsbrook School (8th Grade) in Hadley, MA and Deerfield Academy. He is married to attorney and author Jill Filipovic.
