Farm Camp

FarmCampCultivating a Child’s Connection to Nature –
Farm Camp offers children a fun learning opportunity to work hands-on with animals and to participate in a variety of agricultural and craft activities.

New in 2017!  This summer we are excited to offer six weeks of Farm Camp. We are very fortunate to welcome Leila Tunnell as Co-Director of our Hartsbrook Summer Farm Camp 2017.  She comes with a rich experience of working with children in farm-based education programs and will bring just the right mix of creative energy and solid leadership skills – all that is needed for us to expand our program.

– Nicki Robb, Farm Camp Director

Farm Campers Come in Three Different Age Groups:

Sprouts (for children ages 4-6, including those who have completed kindergarten)
As a Sprout, children get to experience the freedom of summer.  Our youngest campers have their own play yard where they can explore the climbing structures, play in a straw bale house, dig in the sand box, wander through the garden, or do crafts with a counselor.  Throughout the day counselors will offer other activities, such as grinding corn for the chickens, planting seeds, visiting the farm animals, making flower chains or splashing in the wading pool.

Young Stewards (for children 6-12, beginning with those who have completed first grade)
Elementary aged children enjoy a week of being outside and doing purposeful work.  Young Stewards gather for a farmers’ meeting, often with a song and a game, before heading off to do their animal chores, like feeding the goats and collecting eggs from the chickens.  They also experience farm-based crafts, such as working with wool and making cheese.  Campers cool off on hot days with water games, like slip and slide.

CIT’s (ages 13-15)
CIT’s are usually seasoned campers who are ready for a new level of responsibility.  They assist counselors with campers during all aspects of the day, including farm work, activities, and free play.  We accept a limited number of CIT’s, so please call to apply.
