Planned Giving  —  The Legacy Circle

Including The Hartsbrook School in your estate planning allows you to support us without affecting your cash flow, your current lifestyle, or financial planning. By including us in your estate plans, you will join The Hartsbrook School Legacy Circle and be honored in each year’s Annual Report and other publications.

The simplest method is to make provisions for the Hartsbrook School through a bequest in your will. Bequests can be arranged by adding a codicil to an existing will, or can be included when you declare or rewrite your will. Language you might use reads: “I give, devise and bequeath to The Hartsbrook School ___% of my estate or the sum of $___, or the following named securities or property, to be used for its general objectives or purposes.”

Other Beneficiary Naming

By naming The Hartsbrook School as a beneficiary for all or any portion of your IRA, 401(k), or other qualified retirement plan, you can continue to own the funds and take regular withdrawals as needed during your life. You also maintain flexibility to change beneficiaries if your family needs change. Beneficiary designations must be made in writing through your retirement plan administrator.

Life Insurance Beneficiary

With the gift of life insurance, you don’t need a large estate to make a significant gift. You can do this with a new or existing policy. You keep all the rights in the policy during your life and maintain flexibility to change beneficiaries if your family needs change. If you have a cash value policy you no longer need you can transfer ownership to Hartsbrook and receive a current income tax deduction. The Hartsbrook School may elect to cash it in or hold it. Life insurance beneficiary designations must be made in writing with your life insurance company.

Other Estate Planning Gifts

You can also make provisions for The Hartsbrook School in your estate plans through living or testamentary trust gifts, remainder or lead trusts, and gifts of real estate or other assets.
