The Hartsbrook School

The Annual Fund

BarretHartsbrook is extraordinary in countless ways, the most noteworthy of which is its ability to develop young individuals into free, morally responsible and integrated members of society. Certainly, my elementary school self was unable to comprehend all of these complexities; however, I can share with you now that this approach to education provided me the foundation to climb ladders and chase dreams while following my moral compass. I encourage you all to join me in giving back to Hartsbrook with the hope that collectively we can help strengthen the community and continue to provide a Waldorf education in the Pioneer Valley. Building and Supporting the Hartsbrook Community

Development is a term that incorporates both fundraising for the needs of an institution and relationship building.  We work with parents alumni and alumni parents as well as the Board, faculty and staff to continue to build the Hartsbrook Community that will in turn sustain the school.

Fundraising for the School’s Current Needs:  Our Goals

Our Annual Giving Campaign is focused on raising unrestricted funds through the Annual Fund to help meet the operating budget needs of the school.  As a community, we join togther to make an investment in the school with our donations, that combined with tuition revenue and other revenue support the school’s vibrant programs and facilities, faculty salaries as well as providing financial aid/tuition assistance. Additionally, some donors have chosen to make significant designated gfts to support such areas as financial aid or special projects.

What Does Your Financial Support Mean?

The school is committed to providing strong, vibrant programs that yield the deeply rewarding education that students receive here.  Your support also means that we can continue to sustain a socially and economically diverse student population through financial assistance for tuitions.  Fully a third of our families receive some kind of financial aid, and we annually spend over $600,000 on that aid.  In recent years, we have seen a number of anonymous gifts come forward to support such tuition assistance, gifts that truly represent the “compassionate philanthropy” that shows a sense of supporting others within the school community.

Other members of our community are often willing to step forward to help fund programs and projects as they emerge, again showing their deep appreciation for Hartsbrook’s education and commitment to deeply held shared values.  Our donors help make it all happen.

Our Goals for This Year

Our financial goal for 2015-16 is to raise $125,000, with 100% participation of all parents, Board members, core faculty, and salaried staff. This is a way for each of us to make a gift to each other, to know that we thrive together as a community.  We are also profoundly grateful for philanthropic contributions from our extended community of grandparents, alumni, alumni parents, family, and friends. Your donations acknowledge the value you place on the unique qualities of a Hartsbrook education.

Hartsbrook Community Engagement

Our parents and alumni parents are deeply engaged in the life of the school, through a variety of projects including special events, Parent Council and new endeavors such as the Natural Play Yard Project, the newly revived School Store and a new Farm to Table fundraising event.  These activities build a strong and engaged community that helps the school and all the individuals involved in a way that demonstrates for the students and the next generation what it means to build a strong and supportive community around a deeply held shared purpose.  That community engagement is also an important factor in teaching students how to follow a “moral compass.”
