Early Childhood Lead Teacher for 2024-25 School Year

The Hartsbrook School is in search of an experienced and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Early Childhood Lead Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. The ideal candidate would have a passion for working with a diverse group of young children aged 2 years 9 months to 6 years old, preferably with Waldorf early childhood training. The role involves leading an Early Childhood classroom, collaborating with colleagues on a daily basis, and participating in parent/caregiver, department, and faculty meetings, and contributing to an intentionally inclusive school culture, both within the classroom as well as the wider school community. Following the Waldorf education principles, the teacher will design daily and weekly activities, establish a healthy rhythm, and implement a yearly curriculum reflecting the seasons and festivals.

Each year the Hartsbrook School welcomes over 60 early childhood families who hold a variety of identities and backgrounds to our four mixed-age Farm and Forest early childhood programs. The Hartsbrook School offers children an immersive experience in the natural world. Here the turning of the seasons, the nurturing of the child’s senses, purposeful work, inclusion, music, and plenty of opportunity for creative play and movement form the foundation of our developmental curriculum. The fields and forests of Hartsbrook’s 54 acres offer incredible opportunities for exploration and wonder. Our days are woven through with song, story, artistic activity, and seasonal festivals. 

Qualifications for the position include a Bachelor’s degree, Waldorf early childhood training (with preference given to candidates with a WECAN-recognized Birth to Seven Waldorf Teacher Training certificate), and previous teaching experience in a WECAN-recognized Early Childhood Program.

1st Grade Class Teacher for 2024-25 School Year

The Hartsbrook School is seeking is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic candidate with Waldorf teacher training and classroom experience for the 2024-2025 school year and beyond to teach first grade. Student Support Coordinator for 2024-25 School Year

The Hartsbrook School is in search of an experienced and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Student Support Coordinator for the 2024-2025 school year. The ideal candidate should have a passion for working with a diverse group of young children in grades 1-6 and, preferably, have Waldorf training. The role involves leading a team of student support members, collaborating with colleagues on a daily basis, participating in parent/caregiver, department, and faculty meetings, and contributing to an intentionally inclusive school culture, both within the classroom as well as in the wider school community.

The Student Support Coordinator is responsible for implementing and maintaining the appropriate academic and/or social-emotional services students require in order to fully participate in their education at Hartsbrook and in accordance with school policy as well as applicable state/federal laws.

The Student Support Coordinator will collaborate with the Student Support Team and follow up using Waldorf educational principles when planning, designing, and monitoring all services provided to students.

The Student Support Coordinator will work together with the Student Support Team to be a resource to students, faculty, staff and families.

Qualifications for the position include:

  • A knowledge of and experience with Waldorf pedagogy and learning supports specific to Waldorf schools, or an openness to professional development (additional training) in order to gain this knowledge and experience.

Preferred but not required:

  • Masters Degree in Education or other equivalent certification to work with students with disabilities, crisis intervention and family support.

High School Theater Teacher & Community Drama Director for 2024-25 School Year

The Hartsbrook School is in search of an experienced and enthusiastic individual to serve as the High School Theater Teacher & Community Drama Director for the 2024-2025 school year and beyond. At Hartsbrook, we view drama as a tool towards an inclusive community, and we seek a candidate who will bring a comfort level with and ability to engage students in a wide variety of experiences that allow them to stretch their abilities and understandings in creative ways. The Hartsbrook Theater Teacher and Community Drama Director creates an intentionally inclusive classroom culture grounded in the tenets of Waldorf philosophy, providing instruction in theater and performance for students in grades 9-12. The Theater Teacher develops and delivers a comprehensive, outcomes based curriculum to a diverse group of students, facilitating innovative approaches grounded in the Waldorf tradition, and coordinates and directs the annual community-wide High School Drama. Adjunct Health & Wellness Teacher (Grades 9-11) for 2024-25 School Year

The Hartsbrook School is in search of an experienced and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Hartsbrook School Health & Wellness Teacher (Grades 9-11) for the 2024-2025 school year and beyond. The Hartsbrook School Health & Wellness Teacher creates an intentionally inclusive classroom culture grounded in the tenets of Waldorf philosophy providing instruction in health and wellness, for students in grades 9-11. The Health & Wellness Teacher creates a comprehensive, outcomes based 9-11 curriculum, teaching it to a diverse group of students facilitating innovative approaches to health and wellness. Topics to be covered over the years include sex education, substance use and abuse, media literacy, and making healthy choices, among others. This teacher works with our faculty to consider the unique needs of each group of students in designing and delivering curriculum, and collaborates with other teachers to connect it to other parts of the curriculum.

Jazz Ensemble Teacher for 2024-25 School Year

The Hartsbrook School is in search of an experienced and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Jazz Ensemble Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year and beyond. The Hartsbrook School Jazz Ensemble Teacher creates an intentionally inclusive classroom culture grounded in the tenets of Waldorf philosophy providing instruction in jazz music history, appreciation, and performance. The Jazz Ensemble Director teaches in our high school for three 45-minute periods each week as part of our music elective program, teaching a diverse group of students and a wide range of instrumentalists, and facilitating both traditional and innovative approaches to ensemble music making. Topics to be covered in the class include ensemble skills, historical context of jazz, jazz appreciation and critique, music theory and composition, and improvisation. This teacher works with our other music teachers to produce a minimum of two performances a year and may also choose to organize additional performance opportunities for their ensemble throughout the year. A possibility for augmenting this position may include teaching a middle school guitar class twice weekly.

Camp Counselor - Summer 2024

The Hartsbrook School is looking for warm, caring individuals to help guide and implement our camp programs for the summer of 2024. These camps provide 5 weekly sessions of fun, creative, hands-on opportunities on 54 acres of farm and forest land for students of all ages to explore.

Our Camps programs include:

  • All Ages: Early Bird (early arrival add-on program starting at 7:30am)
  • Pre-K – Rising 1st Grade: Sprouts Farm Camp
  • Rising 1st Grade – 6th Grade: Young Farmers Farm Camp
  • Rising 2nd – 8th Grade: Creativity Camp
  • Rising 3rd – 6th Grade: Teatrito de papel 
  • Rising 4th – 9th Grade: Fiddle Camp
  • Rising 6th – 9th Grade: CIT (Counselor in Training) 

Hours and Compensation

  • Approx. 210 hours from 6/17/24 – 8/6/24
  • Base pay starts at $16.50/hour. Increments added for years of experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises a group of campers for each weekly session
  • Meets daily with the Camp Director
  • Advises and informs the Director regarding any needs or issues such as health, safety, or conflict-related to organizing or managing the campers.
  • Participates in the employee orientation and training (online and in-person) required.
  • Participants in an orientation for Camp Counselors.
  • Together with the Director reviews the program at the end of the summer.
  • Supports the Director in all aspects of the daily operation of the program.
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Openness and enthusiasm for play based learning 
  • Appreciation for the creative process (over the final result)
  • Comfortable leading small groups of campers
  • Comfortable getting hands messy
  • Able to follow detailed instructions and also think on your feet as needed
  • Flexible to shift as needed based on camper, group and project needs

Assistant Varsity Open Ultimate Frisbee Coach

Hartsbrook is seeking an Assistant Varsity Open Ultimate Frisbee Coach.  The varsity open ultimate frisbee practice (grades 9-12) will begin on Monday, March 18, 2024.  Practices are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at Hartsbrook from  3:25-5:30pm.  The season ends on Sunday, June 2, 2024. There will be home and away games that will require a longer work day.  Pay will begin at $21/hr.

Requirements: Coaching experience is strongly preferred. Mandatory First Aid/CPR and Epi-pen training will be offered if you are not already certified. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required. Complete 14-passenger school bus training. Complete sexual harassment and anti-bullying trainings.

Substitute School Nurse

This is a per diem position for days when the primary school nurse is absent from school. Hours are 8:30-3:30 per day. The substitute will follow all policies and procedures of The Hartsbrook School, the Health Office and the MDPH School Health Manual. The following job responsibilities include:

  • Assessment of student health when responding to student illness, injury and medical needs with first aid treatment and emergency care
  • Respond to daily needs of the students who present with chronic health conditions and acute psychological and behavioral health issues
  • Perform medical procedures as indicated by students’ physicians
  • Administer daily medication or over the counter medication PRN per medication orders
  • Record student encounters, medication administration, and treatments daily in the SNAP database to maintain up-to-date health records in accordance with Standards of Practice.
  • Communicate with parents, teachers and staff as needed regarding illness and injury of students throughout the day.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff as needed to meet the student’s needs during the school day
  • Maintain confidentiality as mandated by Massachusetts Regulations in the school setting.
  • Telephone triage PRN
  • Uphold COVID-19 guidelines, requirements, policy and procedure

Qualifications:

  • Current valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Massachusetts
  • Three years experience in pediatric nursing and school health care preferred
  • Current certification in CPR/AED/First Aid training
  • Mandated reporter training (this can be done online)

Compensation:

  • $245.00/day for full coverage from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm.

Substitute Teacher

The Hartsbrook Waldorf School is seeking substitute teachers to work with students Grades 1-12 (in-person classes).
We are seeking candidates who have experience working with children in classroom settings and or camp, who are comfortable working outdoors, enthusiastic and interested in the company of students and able to successfully complete the state mandated CORI, as well as SORI, and a fingerprint based criminal background check. No benefits are offered for the temporary position.

The Hartsbrook School is in search of an experienced and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Biology & Chemistry Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year and beyond. The Hartsbrook School is seeking a Biology & Chemistry Teacher for the 2024-25 School Year. The Hartsbrook School Biology & Chemistry Teacher creates an intentionally inclusive classroom culture grounded in the tenets of Waldorf philosophy, providing instruction in biology and chemistry for students in grades 9-12. The Biology & Chemistry Teacher develops and delivers a comprehensive, outcomes-based science curriculum to a diverse group of students, facilitating innovative approaches grounded in the Waldorf tradition. Most courses are taught in main lesson blocks of 80 minutes, with a few 45-minute long track classes as well. This teacher works with our science team and high school faculty to consider the unique needs of each group of students in designing and delivering curriculum, and collaborates with other teachers to connect it to other parts of the curriculum.
