The Hartsbrook School is seeking applicants for Seventh Grade Class Teacher for 2008/2009. We are seeking candidates with Waldorf teacher training, a Bachelor’s degree, and teaching experience for this full-time position.
The Hartsbrook School was founded in 1981 with five pre-school students in a little farmhouse. We now have two campuses and 258 students, pre-school through grade 12. The Ben Smith, a two hundred year old tavern with great charm, houses the first and second grades, along with a parent-toddler program, and two nurseries.
The Piening Hall campus has twenty open rolling acres of land with a view of the Holyoke Mountains. The two kindergartens are in the Homestead, alongside barns for goats, sheep and chickens, a garden classroom and a small garden. The third through sixth grades, along with the main office, are in our new Elementary School, which will eventually house grades one through eight. The high school is housed in Piening Hall. Our faculty numbers around 50, with 7 staff members and an active and supportive Board of Directors. In September of 2002 we started a high school with a ninth grade class, and we currently have 45 students in grades 9-12.
Our school has been a full member of AWSNA since 1988. We have an active Branch of the Anthroposophical Society with several study groups, and the First Class of the School of Spiritual Science meets regularly. There is a biodynamic farm in the area.
We are situated in the middle of the five-college area of the pastoral Pioneer Valley, which offers many world-class cultural events, restaurants, movies, galleries and boutiques, dancing, music and theatre. The rural town of Hadley is located between Amherst and Northampton (recently named the small town arts capitol of the United States). We are a two-hour drive from Boston, a three-hour drive from New York City, and one hour from Vermont.
Our current salary range is $27,500 to $40,000, with a needs-based adjustment possible, an 80% employer contribution to the cost of HMO medical coverage, a retirement 403(B) plan, short- and long-term disability insurance, cafeteria plan and up to 90% tuition remission.
