The growth of The Hartsbrook School has been rapid. From
the purchase of the Ben Smith Tavern in 1984 to the design
and building of Piening Hall in 1989, and to the most recent
acquisition and renovation of the Homestead building completed
in 2000, the tradition of extraordinarily generous contributions
from parents, alumni and friends has supported us in our
vision to “unite and expand the campus.”
What began 22 years ago in the basement of a home in Amherst,
Massachusetts has now grown to two sites in Hadley; the
Ben Smith, located at 94 Bay Road, home for early childhood
through second grade, and the Hartsbrook School campus located
at 193 Bay Road, serving grades three through high school.

Today, The Hartsbrook School looks toward the future with
pride in its many accomplishments. We will continue to offer
a unique learning experience to residents of the Pioneer
Valley that integrates the disciplines of movement, fine
arts, and practical arts into the study of humanities, science,
math, and technology. And we will continue to need your
help.
There are three ways in which you can help us achieve our
goals:
The Elementary School Building Campaign
Plans are underway to build a 12,200 square foot classroom
facility which will allow us to unite the grades onto one
campus and into one building. The new building will also
include a large movement space for physical education, faculty
support space for lesson preparation, tutoring, parent conference,
and office space. The High School will be able to move from
its existing modular home to Piening Hall. The Early Childhood
programs will also be expanded.
Please help us realize this vision by making a gift to
the campaign payable over the next one to five years. Our
campaign goal is $1,000,000.
The Annual Fund
Donations received by the Annual Fund allow us to provide
enhancements to the educational experience at The Hartsbrook
School that are not covered by the cost of tuition. Items
supported by this fund include the Homestead Program, overnight
field trips, tuition assistance, and many other unique learning
opportunities that are vital to the integration of life
experiences and studies.
Endowment Fund
The commitment and dedication of the founders of The Hartsbrook
School established more than two decades ago are evident
in the many relationships that continue to flourish in the
school today. The Endowment Fund was established to help
secure the legacy and the long term health and sustainability
of Hartsbrook School for many decades to come.
