Extended HoursOur Early Childhood Programs attend to children’s unfolding capacities and awakening interests and meet their deep devotion for life with a gentle, loving environment. We offer rhythm and balance in daily and weekly plans, and opportunities to work out social interactions in a safe setting. Our programs provide the foundation for developing creative thinking and sound character through activity, imitation and imaginative play.

CRICKET ON THE HEARTH

Cricket DrawingChildren from three months to three years old and their parents are welcome to Cricket on the Hearth, a faculty led parent-toddler group. There is companionship, conversation, and support for parents, and simple craft activities, snacks, songs, rhymes, stories and plenty of play, both indoors and out, for all. Groups meet weekly, for fourteen to sixteen week sessions throughout the school year.

NURSERY and KINDERGARTEN

Our nursery and kindergarten programs provide a home-like setting that also offers a rich exposure to language and culture through play, creative and practical activity, daily stories, songs and poems.  These experiences encourage the unfolding of the imagination, providing a foundation for subsequent creative and insightful thinking.

Because young children are so quick to imitate and absorb their surroundings, special care is given to create a play environment that is beautiful, unhurried and serene.  Through the teacher's gentle guidance, a balance is achieved between more active pursuits such as imaginative play, singing, circle games, cooking, baking, and outdoor play, and more receptive, quiet activities such as listening to stories, drawing or painting.  Similarly, children are able to experience both the pleasures of solitary play and the rewards of being part of a group.  A sense of wonder and whole-hearted participation in the surrounding world are both the special virtues of young children and the aims of the preschool program.

AFTERCARE PROGRAM

Aftercare is available for children age 4 and up from 12:15 to 2:50 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Parents may choose aftercare days that work best for their schedules.  Children who stay for aftercare have playtime, brown bag lunch, rest, and outdoor play.
