11th Grade: Parzival

In September, the eleventh grade explored the medieval romance Parzival, a poem by Wolfram Von Eschenbach, in both experiential and literary ways.   We traced the young knight’s quest for a life of service to the Grail and to humanity at large, following his remarkable, event-filled journey, while asking questions about our own journeys on the path toward self-knowledge. Coursework was based in daily discussion and included written personal reflections and artwork on themes drawn from the book, culminating in a personal essay in which each student defined their own Grail and described their quest in its pursuit thus far. The block drew energy from an intensive at the Triform Camphill Community in Hudson, NY.
