“We meet our students as we are and as they are, right here and right now, finite but incomplete; we enlarge and expand in order to engage their minds and fire their hearts, to provoke their imaginations and our own. We remind ourselves that a teacher’s destination is always the same: that special spot between heaven and earth, that plain but spectacular space where we might once again try to teach toward freedom.” The Hartsbrook High School builds on the foundations established in the elementary school years, offering an education that promotes academic excellence, cultivates artistic expression, develops practical skills and strengthens moral character while growing the student’s clarity of thought, warmth of heart, and strength of purpose. The academic program strives to engage students’ interest and strengthen their intellectual skills in preparation for college and life-long learning. The program in the arts helps the students develop their capacities for self-expression, practicality, and self-reliance. Community service, internship and international exchange programs allow students to develop a broader perspective and to learn new life skills. In the healthy and supportive environment of a small school, our students and teachers work side by side in pursuit of their ideals. In a spirit of community, students and teachers plan events, formulate policies, and resolve conflicts. We seek students with varied strengths and backgrounds who will strive to reach their potential—academically, artistically and socially. The Hartsbrook School offers a challenging and inspiring high school curriculum that successfully integrates academics, arts and life-long love of learning.
